Sekar Jagad (the flower universe) in Lasemese batiks can be made both colorful and monochromatic like this one. This sogan (brown/yellowish brown) Sekar Jagad is special because it was made with a coloring process called Es Teh or Iced Tea in the Indonesian language because the color resembles a glass of iced tea served on a hot day. To understand Es Teh process, one must get familiar with Tiga Negeri batik first. Historically, Tiga Negeri is a complicated coloring process invented by a batik maker in Solo, who insisted on coloring having his batiks colored red in Lasem, blue in Pekalongan, and Brown (or yellowish brown) in Solo. Nowadays, Tiga Negeri batiks are colored in one place and Es Teh is a color process of Tiga Negeri without using the red element.
